Clear a three-foot path around every supply and return register, including behind beds, under furniture, and in closets. The crew needs to reach each opening with a drill (to remove register screws), a brush or air whip, and in many cases a vacuum hose. Furniture you cannot move should be noted when you book so the estimator can quote accordingly.
Contain dust-sensitive items. Computers, aquariums, sensitive electronics, and open food should be covered or relocated. While a negative-air system captures most debris at the truck, some fine dust can escape during register removal. A reputable crew uses drop cloths, but you can shorten the job by clearing surfaces first.
Plan to be out of the home for the dwell time of any sanitizer you have approved, and for several hours of the cleaning itself if anyone in the household has respiratory sensitivities. Confirm the re-entry window with the crew before they begin fogging.
Finally, replace your air filter the day of or the day after cleaning. A new filter catches the residual fines that settle after the system restarts, and it gives you a clean baseline for measuring how quickly your home re-accumulates dust.
